Check Yourself

The last few weeks have been crazy for me and my family as we've moved across the country, from Arizona to Indiana. It's been exhausting, frustrating, exciting, and so busy... all at the same time. There been lots of decisions made quickly and lots of things to look forward to. And while my husband and I live with my parents for the next 3 weeks and going back and forth seeing other family, sometimes our exhaustion or selfishness gets the best of us (or others) and attitudes can start to go south. I have prayed through all this transition that God would give me a good attitude toward my husband, especially, but to others around me as well. It's not always easy because sometimes the attitudes, words, or actions of others affect the way I feel as well. But there are two main things I've been doing to make sure I'm checking my attitude during the day.

1. Pray!
If I'm praying and asking for God to help me have a good attitude, how does he know how I will react unless he tests me? So... I pray to be prepared for situations and people that are before me. I pray for the people who have had hurtful words or wrong attitudes towards me. I pray for a right, clean, pure heart and loving words to say. I start with prayer because I know I need God's help.

2. Do what Jesus Did
It's cheesy and society has turned it into a cliche' but, seriously, in the moment you have to ask yourself, "what would Jesus do?" How would Jesus react in this situation? How would he want me to react? What would he want me to say? There are times when God says it's okay to stand up for myself and my family, but in a loving way. And it's important to not get caught up in other's attitudes. I choose my attitude - others don't choose it for me. Sometimes it means keeping my mouth shut and my prayers loud. Sometimes it means pleasing others because you love someone. Sometimes it means choosing not to involve yourself in a situation any more than you have to. But I think, "how would Jesus want me to react?"

That's it. Praying and making sure I'm speaking and acting how God commands me. Prayer prepares me for the people and situations I will encounter. And when I act how Jesus would, then I know I'm following His example. Sometimes you need to check yourself and your attitude!

Money Money Money

One thing that you should know about me is that I do not like to open my wallet!! I do NOT like to spend money! I am the biggest saver! Whenever I do buy something (which isn't often) my family makes a creeeeeeeak noise to signify my wallet opening and then a snap to indicate it is shut for a while. You may be thinking... wow that is not me... I spend money like crazy. Well I have good news for you if you want to get better at saving money there are some resources out there for you that have inspired me!

Dave Ramsey has written many books about financial stability. If you haven't gotten to read any of his books whether you are good with money or not so good I highly recommend his book titled Financial Peace. Dave explains how to manage money in a Christ-like fashion. He's has been on many christian radio stations and frequently ties God into our moo-lah!!! After all God gives us jobs to earn money and since he has blessed us enough to have both those things it truly belongs to him and he wants us to take care of it and be wise with it.

Matthew 6:24       "No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money."

It isn't about how much green you have but about how you manage what you do have. Your God given blessing. Here are some of Dave's tips that have really stuck with me.
  1.  When it seems like you have a million things to pay off, school loans, car payment, mortgage, credit card... it all adds up. But here is one way to make it easier on yourself, figure out how much you owe on each then, put them in order from least to greatest. Once you can pay off the smallest one then compile that money you were paying on the smallest and put it with what you are already paying on the next to smallest until you have that expense payed off then continue on up until you are to the largest. You do this smallest to largest so you pay them off quicker and see progress. It would take much less time to pay off your $600 credit card bill than it would your entire mortgage.
  2. GET RID OF PLASTIC!!!!! I heard Dave on the radio the other day he told listeners, "Use cash while shopping and browsing if you can because George, Benjamin, and Abe have feelings. It's just a little harder to spend those bills as opposed to swiping a card and if you are trying to save then use cash when you can!
  3. Find a budget that works for you and your family. Plan out how much the bills will cost this week or month and ask God what you should spend on other things. For example I get paid every two weeks and each pay check I save twenty dollars for gifts and put it in an envelope. Twenty dollars for just spending money and put it in an envelope. And to save for a new car, $150 each pay check.(remember this is what works for me I only have myself to look after, other digits may work better for you) Those are just a few things, you may want to go more in depth. Dave even recommends to know where every penny is going to go if you can.
God calls us to be wise with the money he has graciously given us. There is so so so much more to this topic. I really encourage if you're  struggling or just need some more tips to read one or more of Dave Ramsey's books! They are wonderful. I was blessed to learn about how to spend and save early on. When I entered high school just four short years ago, a new class was starting called Personal Finance and I took it. I've always been a saver and it is never too late to start! I have a full time job and am living with my parents, I don't have many bills to pay or a family to support so who am I to be giving advise? I really feel led to talk about the green stuff in our pockets and encourage you toward financial peace, and stability. You may be living pay check to pay check and can hardly see the light at the end of the tunnel but trust that God will provide for you! He loves you and He is providing for you each and every day! After all, on all our cash and change it says "in God we trust"!!! Go ahead check it out!! I hope and pray this is an encouragement to you and not an accusation especially with this being my second blog post:]

Spend more time with God

SPEND TIME WITH ME for the pure pleasure of being in My company.

I can brighten up the dullest of gray days; I can add sparkle to the routines of daily life.

You have to repeat so many tasks day after day.

This monotony can dull your thinking until your mind slips into neutral.

A mind that is unfocused is vulnerable to "the world, the flesh and the devil," all which exert a downward pull on your thoughts.

As your thinking processes deteriorate, you become increasingly confused and directionless.

The best remedy is to refocus your mind and heart on Me, your constant Companion.

Even the most confusing day opens up before you as you step by step with Me.

My Presence goes with you wherever you go, providing Light for your path.

Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me. --Psalm 63:7-8

Your word is a lamp to  my feet and a light for my path. -- Psalm 119:105

~Reflection~

Good morning girls of God's heart!  Take a moment to read this and sit with it.  What does this mean to you?  We work so hard to keep up a particular image for our friends, our family, our co-workers, this world... but guess what?  You are made in GOD'S image! Rest in the knowledge that you are precious to Him and He loves you just the way you are.  No pretenses, no ego.  You are His and that is enough.

Meet Taylar, GOGH Newest Writer!

Today is my first blog post but you will be hearing a lot more from me in the weeks to come!

I thought I should take a second to introduce myself before getting started! My name is Taylar Reitz. I am 19 years old... almost! Tiffany is my sister. We are both very excited to be doing this blog together. The other day I felt led to start guest posting on Girls of God's Heart but my sister informed me I was more than welcome to blog on a regular basis, so I definitely felt God pushing me forward to do that.

I really enjoy free writing. My spirit just opens up and I can say exactly what is on my heart. I journal on a pretty much daily basis. I highly recommend doing so too. Whether you write in a time of need or time of praise you can look back and see what was going on in your life, how it has affected your life and how you've grown from it. I use my journalism as a form of worship, the more I journal the closer I feel to God because I am opening up myself to Him and His ways.

Psalm 101:1 I will sing of your love and justice to you, Lord, I will sing praise.

If you are feeling the need to get something off your chest, journal about it. God already know what you have to say and what has been happening in your life but it is soothing and healing to not only pray to Him but write to Him also.

Lately my entries are me trying to be optimistic and thankful when times are tough. I write things like, "Caleb (my boyfriend of almost two years) just left for college again, but I am thankful we can still communicate and that we had an amazing summer growing closer together. That we will see each other soon and God will continue revealing His plans for us" Also, "My dad lost his job Friday. We have to live off my moms pay check for now but there is so much to be thankful for! God decided to close that door to his old job and will open another for a new one. Maybe it will be something he enjoys more. I am thankful I'm still living at home and not going to college like the rest of my friends so that I can work and help out in the ways God wants me to."

God has a big plan for each of us. Some of it may not seem great at the time but be thankful for every situation. I have learned through my optimistic journalism He is always there, He is never leaving and He loves me unconditionally. He loves you too! So whether you write to Him on a regular basis or never have, take a moment today to give Him what is truly on your mind and thank Him for the good and the bad. He is helping us to grow into mature women of Christ.

We are weak but he is strong.

A God who Heals

I AM A GOD WHO HEALS.

I heal broken bodies, broken minds, broken heart, broken lives, and broken relationships.

My very Presence has immense healing powers.

You cannot live close to Me without experiencing some degree of healing.

However, it is also true that you have not because you ask not.

You receive the healing that flows naturally from My Presence, whether you seek it or not.

But, there is more - much more - available to those who ask.

The first step in receiving healing is to live ever so close to me,

The benefits of this practice are too numerous to list.

As you grow more and more intimate with Me, I reveal my will to you more directly.

When the time is right, I prompt you to ask for healing of some brokenness in you or in another person.

The healing may be instantaneous, or it may be a process.

That is up to Me.

Your part is to trust Me fully and to thank Me for the restoration that has begun.

"Ask and it will be given to you. Seek and you will find." -- Matthew 7:7

What Happens Next?

You wake up in the morning. You get ready. You go to work. You did this every day for your whole life. But today is different. Today you get pulled into the corporate world's office. They sit you in front of a desk & tell you I am sorry but your 30 years here means nothing & we have to let you go.

And then your world stops. You think how am I going to tell my wife? My family? My friends? How am I going to face the world? How am I going to survive? How am I going to provide?

Hebrews 13:5 NIV -- Keep your life free from the love of money & be content with what you have, because God has said, 'Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you.'

What happens next?

Everything you ever worked for disappears in a blink of an eye.

This happened to my dad on Friday.

I got a text from him.. My world instantly stopped. I was driving. I almost thought it was a joke. I immediately called him. He didn't answer. I was fighting back tears saying no, no, not my dad. How is this possible? Then he calls me back immediately.

His first words, it'll be all right. This is all part of God's plan.

I listened to this humble man on the other side of phone with nothing but positive words flowing out of his mouth. Me, still fighting back tears.

We are talking about my dad. My hero. The one who has always provided for our family as I was growing up. The one who had it all together. The one who I looked up to. The one who is now jobless.

My heart hurt so bad for him. He was 1 of 6 they let go for economical reasons. I understand that. Companies sometimes sink. And some companies don't exactly have the best morals, but it makes sense for them to get rid of the ones that make the most & forget about the last 30 years he worked for them.

This whole weekend I was a mess. A emotional mess. I just want to be there for him & my mom during this trialing period of their lives. If I could give them the world like they gave me, I would.

After I got off the phone I was praying. All day. I fell asleep praying about it. I woke up praying about it.

God has a plan. My dad is aware of it. I am aware of it. I just hate to see any hurt or struggles. But I do know that if this brings my dad to depend on the Lord more & really get to know Him, that will be the greatest blessing of all. I am hopeful. I am hopeful because I know God has a great plan for him, I just can't wait to see it.

John 14:1 NASB -- Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me.

And this waiting period... That's the hardest. We all now that.

So for my dad, who spent the last 30 years doing the exact same thing is gone. His world got rocked. So now God, what's next?

Isaiah 43:13 NASB -- For I am the Lord your God, who upholds your right hand, who says to you, 'Do not fear, I will help you.'

Father I'm Afraid

Happy Friday girls of God's heart.  Thank you for spending a few minutes with me before your weekends starts!

Have you ever had the feeling that God really wants to you to know something?  That he really wants you to hear something He has to say?  This has been me for the last couple of days.  The same word has been popping up over and over, so much so that I can't ignore it!  Ok, Daddy, I hear you!

Fear.

My 14 month old son has been sick.  Since Christmas he has had a virus 1-2 times per month every month.  His illnesses are accompanied by high fevers that scare the bajeebers out of me.  We have been to the ER with him three times since Christmas.  At first I didn't think much of it, just that he was having normal childhood illnesses and it would get better as his immune system got stronger.  This last virus (we are still battling currently) I began to realize that this didn't feel normal.  Every three weeks an illness like clockwork?  He is very small for his age and we're noticing that he's having trouble gaining weight because he's always sick.  As his temperature crept up over 105 this past weekend and we once again took him to the ER per recommendation of the pediatrician, I began to really get scared.  (The last time we went to the ER he was given IV fluids, the drew blood and they took a urine sample and took chest x-rays.  They found nothing majorly concerning, praise the Lord.)  I cried at the thought of having to watch him go through all that misery again.  This time they didn't do all of the tests, rather they told me he just had a virus and that it's not unusual for a little one to have a virus every month or so and sent us home.  Something just didn't sit right with me.  This didn't feel normal.  That feeling in the pit of my stomach was fear.  God what is going on? He's so little and I can't protect him from getting sick.  I don't know how to make him better.  I'm his mama, it's my job to take care of him.  I felt almost paralyzed.  I knew in my hear I needed to give it to the Lord but mostly I just really wanted to worry.  Have you ever felt that way?  Like it's easier to worry about it than just trust God to take care of it?  I think part of my fear is that God wouldn't do what I asked... I have spent so many nights asking God for comfort for my baby, for healing and protection from future illnesses and guess what?  He still got sick.

Monday night was Bible study night and we watched the DVD of Beth Moore preaching about Esther.  This message shot straight to my heart.  It was a longer than usual message and it was entirely about fear.  And do you know what she said that really convicted me?  She said that we trust God NO MATTER WHAT THE ANSWER.  He may not choose to heal my baby right away.  I trust him anyway.  My little one may have a condition or more serious illness that we'll need to deal with.  I need to trust him anyway.  {What if = I fear, Beth Moore}

Our trust should never be conditional.  God I'll trust you if...

We were asked what our biggest fear is.  By far my number one fear is something happening to one of my babies.  Beth preached that it's not enough to trust God that our biggest fear won't happen.  The enemy will torture us with that fear.  We have to trust God that he will be with us NO MATTER WHAT happens.  This is where true peace comes from.  My favorite quote from the message was this:

Courage (which at it's core comes from the latin word for 'heart')
comes from a heart that is convinced that is is loved.
1John 4:18 "There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear."
One of my favorite scriptures!

I am loved.  This gives me courage to stand in the face of anything that threatens to take my peace and my joy. Because the Lord loves me as his chosen child, he will take care of me NO MATTER WHAT. Thank you Jesus for speaking to my heart.

Girls, let me share with you what has popped up in my Instagram and Facebook feed in just the last two days (since I heard this message about fear)...

Coincidence?
Nah, I don't think so!

Be Still and Know

All of the following things have happened in my life the last month:

  • My husband and I made the decision to follow God's leading and move back to our home state of Indiana (from Arizona.)
  • We put our house in AZ up for sale (cleaning, packing, showings.)
  • My husband began looking/applying for other jobs
  • My grandfather was moved into a nursing home and continues to decline in health
  • Found out my other grandfather needed open heart surgery, which, praise the Lord went well yesterday
  • We were planning my son's 1st birthday parties (yes, two of them)
  • Our house sold in one week. Holy cow.
  • We traveled to Indiana for 10 days - where my husband got a fantastic job offer, we looked at 11 homes in 2 counties, found a house we loved, put an offer on it and celebrated my son's 1 year birthday with two parties in two days.
Oh did I mention, now that we're back in AZ... we officially move back to IN for good in 10 days. And we're living with my parents, who thought they were going to be empty nesters when my brother went to college... [sorry Mom & Dad] AND... we're closing on our new house middle of September.

I'm sure I'm missing something else, but just writing all of that makes me stressed! Not to mention so many other decisions that have had to be made. And you can't please everyone with all the decisions you make, even though you're trying to do what's best for your family. So there's physical loss of sleep and just exhaustion, mental strain making tons of big decisions and planning ahead, emotional stress of these huge changes in your life... and all I want to do is be STILL.

Every step of this process has been God led. He has put things specifically on our hearts so that we would continue to follow His will. And we've been praying and praising Him every single day. But in the midst of all the decisions and planning and packing... even though we know we're following God's will, He still wants us to be still. He asks us to just take a moment to breathe. To pray. To lean on Him for strength. There have been plenty of times just in the last week that I've cried aloud, "The joy of the Lord is my strength!" and "Jesus give me strength!" because I know that it can only come from Him. But he also wants us to just stop and rest. To be still and know that He is God. To revel in His glory and His grace. To breathe in His spirit and know that only HE can rejuvenate me!

So whether your last few weeks or today is absolutely crazy or if maybe you just need strength...

Release what God is asking you to...

Is there something in your life that God has been saying, let go & let Me.
Is there something in your life that is not in accordance to God & His truth & He is saying, let go & let Me.

Sometimes it is so hard to stop what we want, listen to God, & let Him. Even when it's something as simple as.. We want that new purse we've been eying for weeks & He says, no, let go
Or when it's something harder like letting a friend walk away & He says, let go & let them
Or when your husband wants to leave you because He is in love with someone else & He says, let go of your earthly feelings & love him unconditionally
Or when your a victim of childhood abuse & He says, let go & forgive them
Or when you lose your job & you can't make your house payment, your car payment, and every other bill, & He says, let go & trust Me
Or when every day you wake up in fear & He says, let go & fear Me.

Proverbs 3:5-6 NASB --  Trust in the Lord with all your heart & do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, & He will make your paths straight.

When God tells us to do something & it does not make sense to us, trust Him. Trust Him because it says He WILL make our paths straight. We aren't to go off our own understanding, but off His Truth & will for us.

Jeremiah 29:11 The Voice -- For I know the plans I have for you, says the Eternal, plans for peace, not evil, to give you a future and hopenever forget that.

He is not walking us down a path of evil. But He wants to give us PEACE & a future full of hope!

Keep Calm and Relax

(weheartit.com)

LEARN TO ENJOY LIFE.

Relax, remembering that I am God with you.

I crafted you with enormous capacity to know Me and enjoy My Presence.

When My people wear sour faces and walk through their lives with resigned rigidity, I am displeased.

When you walk through a day with childlike delight, savoring every blessing, you proclaim your trust in Me, your ever present Shepherd.

The more you focus on My Presence with you, the more you fully enjoy life.

Glorify Me through your pleasure in Me.

This you proclaim My Presence to the watching world.

"The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel" -- which means, "God with us." Matthew 1:23

"The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come so that they may have life, and to have it to the full. I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for his sheep."
John 10:10-11

What is my purpose?

Have you ever thought - "what's my purpose in this world?"

God has spoke to me directly saying, Tiffany, look right in front of you. Do you see that girl? I put her there. Do you see this job you go to? I put that there too. Do you see this house? I put that there too. Do you see your neighbor? I put them there. Those kids that call you mom? I blessed you with those healthy babes. And that amazing husband of yours. I made him for you.
I have entrusted them to be apart of your life. Right now where you are, is where I want you.

Do you ever have one of those moments where God speaks so loudly to you, you think to yourself how the heck did I ever miss it? My husband, my kids, & I live in California. 2000 miles away from our entire family. There is a reason why I am here. God put me here to do something. He gave me a group of godly women to be apart of my life here, to help me grow, for me to help them grow.

I love knowing this.

When someone comes into my office just to talk because honestly they have no one else to talk to, I sit there quietly & ask God, okay God what do you need me to do for her?

When my 4 year old daughter is amazed that God can hear her even when she whispers, I sit back & think wow God you gave me this little girl to pour into. To be an influence to her. And then when I hear my 2 year old son mimic his sister by saying God made the mountains, I think a 2 year old.. A 2 YEAR OLD is speaking Truth. And I get to be apart of it. I get to encourage it.

I get to have my Bible wide open with them while they are coloring. I can tell them the things I am reading, I can help them memorize Scripture.

That amazing first house we were fortunate to buy that I sometimes complain that I get to spend another day cleaning it.. Then God reminds me. I blessed you with this house. If I took your blessing away, what would you clean?

When I know my husband would do absolutely anything for me & know he will be there next to me & support me & who I am. My perfectly imperfect husband forgives me for the millionth time for having to deal with my attitude. The man God designed specifically for me to be a wife to. Yeah that blessing.

Every time that you feel overwhelmed with the question, what is my purpose for this? Pray to God & have Him reveal it to you. But if you think of those things as blessings from God & if they weren't there you'd begin to realize what your purpose is in life.

The Path of Peace

Have you been dealing with something tough lately?

"The parallel train tracks of joy and sorrow are always running side by side throughout our lives.  Choosing to believe in the darkness - in our personal lives and on a global scale - opens the door to joy."

Spiritual Pen Pal's

Who loves getting stuff in the mail? I know this girl does. I literally look forward to checking the mail each & every day. Now a days most of my bills comes via email so the mailbox gives me surprises these days!! Well surprises as when to the stuff I ordered gets there :)

I love snail mail, but I am actually quite terrible at sending things. Occasionally I get the birthday card out on time, typically it is late. But I love getting a letter or a card from a girl friend.

Julie & I were talking about Pen Pal's the other day & then I got to thinking, I love to write, I love to get things in the mail, I love encouraging & reaching out to anyone I can... Why not start a pen pal relationship through the blog?

There is no monetary commitment other than sending out a sweet note of encouragement, a card, a index card with Scriptures. WHATEVER you feel led to send your sweet new girl friend in Christ! Julie spoke to me at Bible Study this week a verse that God told her to give to me. I was so ecstatic over her speaking those words to me that if I got that excited over that how excited would I be to get a note card of Scripture in the mail?! Okay so it's the little things that get me :)

All you need to do right now is fill out this form below & submit it. You will be assigned a lady with an email from us! If you cannot see form below, please click HERE.

Characteristics of a Christian Woman: Selflessness

Selflessness... One who puts others first, one who is the opposite of selfish.

A biblical perspective... One who puts God first & His will for your life over your own selfish desires & ways.

How many of us take things into our own hands to get it done on our own time because well, we are women & know what is best? This is our selfish desires winning us over. It's time to put God first, be selfless on purpose for Him.

I used to get up every morning before my family would wake up & get in His Word, whether that be a chapter, a verse, a study, whatever it was. I did it. Lately I have flip flopped, I stay up late (mostly because my husband is a night owl... <--- A selfless act toward my husband) & I don't get to get up early anymore. Okay it's not that I don't get to, it's I am too tired to even think about getting up beforemy family now.

But lately... I have heard God whisper in my ear; what happened to our morning time? What happened to you getting up before you start your day & put Me first above all, before you walk out into a world that's in love with itself?

My selfish ways I thought, really? But I spend so much time in the Word before I go to bed, more than I was when I was getting up in the morning with You.

Then this morning I finally got my answer... Tiffany, spend time with Me this morning to put my Word in your heart before the world drains you. Clear as day. So what did I do? I rolled over in bed silently grabbed my Bible & opened it up & began to read. Read before a noise in my house was made.

Matthew 6:33 The Voice -- Seek first the kingdom of God & His righteousness.

God wants the best for us & He knows what is best. So when will we stop thinking we know what is best for our lives & let Him take control over it?
God also instructs us to be selfless with others too. As women, we may tend to almost always do this as wives & mothers, but sometimes we can be selfish in our actions & getting things done our own way. Next time you are doing something for someone else, ask yourself, am I do this to please myself or the other person? Am I doing this act out of love?

Philippians 2:4 NASB -- Do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.
